Is Ceylon Tea Black Tea?

Ceylon Tea - Black Tea Cup

Is Ceylon Tea Black Tea? Most of the time when someone mentions “Ceylon tea”, they refer to the Black tea produced in Sri Lanka. But to be honest this island nation produces other tea varieties well. Tea varieties such as Ceylon green tea and Ceylon white tea are also produced in Sri Lanka. These teas are also produced off the same plant called “Camellia Sinesis”. Leaves harvested from these plants are processed using different methods to create these different types of teas. So technically we cannot say Ceylon tea is black tea entirely. But among those Ceylon tea types the most popular type is the Ceylon black tea.

What sets Black teas apart from other teas is its crisp, clean taste with subtle floral notes and golden amber-colored brew. Also due to various geo-climatic conditions in different tea-growing regions in Sri Lanka, their black tea has flavor complexities between each batch. But generally these teas have a rich color and robust taste, as they undergo a full oxidation process while being produced.

These teas are perfect for both hot and iced tea preparations. Whether you prefer Pure Ceylon black tea or Flavored teas like Ceylon Earl Grey blends, these teas are known to have various health benefits due to being rich in antioxidants. So these teas have been found to be healthy natural beverages for daily consumption as they are not made with any artificial additives or ingredients.
